A woman named Jennifer from Texas recently ordered an "Elmo is My Homeboy" shirt for her son for a birthday party taking place on a Saturday. Even though she had ordered in plenty of time for the shirt to arrive via Standard Shipping (US Mail), it still hadn't shown up by the Friday before her son's birthday party. So, she contacted us in a bit of a panic and wanted to see if we could help.
Well, we love Elmo and we love little boy's birthday parties, so we sent her another Elmo shirt via FedEx Overnight special Saturday delivery so she could get the shirt in time for the party. We told her we would not charge her any extra for this (our extra cost was a minimum $35 for the FedEx) and just asked that when the first shirt finally arrived via US Mail, to please simply return it to us.
Now the fun part: She received the FedEx'd shirt on Saturday by noon and told us it was "the hit" of the birthday party. Everyone loved the "Elmo is My Homeboy" shirt and she was overwhelmingly grateful.
So, why did we do this and basically take a $35 loss on a $20 sale? Because we sincerely cared about Jennifer and her son's birthday party. It was a special moment with her son and we wanted to do everything we could to make it that way.
Thus, Elmo was truly "to the rescue"... :)
